response is a text that shows the writer's reaction to something, which may be an event, someone else's view or another text. The writer should include features of the original to give some background to their response.

A response usually contains:

  • summary of the original event, view or text
  • the writer's reaction
  • an explanation for why the writer feels that way

Types of responses include reviews, which can be written or spoken. You might want to read a review of a movie to decide whether you want to see it, or you might give a review of the movie to a friend after you have seen it.
